Science Week March 2015

Once again, Science Week (16th - 20th March), was a great success!
All classes, including Pre-School, were involved in what has become one of the highlights of our school year.  Mrs Bayes, our Deputy Headteacher, has organised this event for several years and the children very much look forward to it.
The normal timetable was replaced with numerous 'hands on' Science activities which both consolidated and extended the children's learning in many areas.  The 'Mad Science' team entertained and mesmerised us with their lively experiments and 'Jules the Wildlife Man' made sure we were all engrossed in fossils!  Lion Learners brought along snakes, a meerkat, a tarantula, a scorpion and other animals for us to handle and find out about!  Classes 7 and 8 visited Coldham Wind Farm to take part in an 'Energy' workshop and 'Farm to Fork' workshop, respectively.  They also came back full of facts and figures about the dimensions of the wind turbines and how electricity reaches our homes!  Classes 7 and 8 enjoyed visits to local secondary schools where they participated in exciting lessons in the Science laboratories!
The Science Challenge Homework brought in a fantastic display of nests, characters made from natural materials, gardens and bridges.  We hope the opportunity of working together on this at home provided a fun way of learning more about Science for you and your children.  A huge well done to everyone!
Thank you to all visitors and parent helpers for making this week such a success for pupils and staff.  We are looking forward to the next one!
