SEND - Special Educational Needs and Disablity

Inclusion and Support for SEND Children: Our Commitment

At our school, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their individual needs or abilities. The inclusion of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is at the heart of our ethos, as we are committed to creating a learning environment where diversity is celebrated, and every child feels valued and supported.

We understand that providing tailored support is essential to helping SEND children achieve their full potential. Through personalized strategies, collaborative teamwork, and a nurturing approach, we ensure that every child can access the curriculum and develop the confidence and skills they need for success.

Our commitment to inclusion goes beyond academic achievement. By fostering understanding, empathy, and respect across our school community, we aim to build a culture where all children can learn and grow together. For us, inclusion is not just a priority—it is a principle that shapes everything we do.

Information on how these pupils are assessed and supported can be found by clicking on the links.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the School Office, in the first instance.  You will then be offered an appointment with our SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-Ordinator), Mrs Ruth Wilson.

Our Governor with responsibility for SEND is Mrs Caroline Buckle

Identifying Special Educational Needs

A child may have SEND if they:

  • Experience greater difficulty in learning compared to their peers.

  • Have a disability that impacts their ability to access school facilities and activities.

If you or a teacher have concerns about your child’s progress, we will work closely with you to identify any needs and implement the right support.

How We Support Children with SEND

We follow a graduated approach, adapting support as needed:

  • Wave 1: Quality First Teaching High-quality, differentiated teaching to meet the needs of all children in the classroom.

  • Wave 2: SEND Support Targeted interventions for children identified as needing additional support. This may include input from external specialists.

  • Wave 3: Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) For children with complex, lifelong needs, an EHCP ensures tailored support both in school and through external agencies.

How We Work with Families

Your input is invaluable. We keep families informed and involved through:

  • Regular meetings and progress reviews.

  • Sharing and discussing Individual Provision Maps (IPMs).

  • Clear communication about any concerns or additional support plans.

Transition Support

Transitions can be challenging for children with SEND. We take steps to ensure they are as smooth as possible:

  • For new pupils: Visits to the school, social stories, and taster sessions.

  • Moving to secondary school: Meetings with staff from the new school, additional visits, and tailored transition plans.

Our SEND Team

  • Class Teachers: Your first point of contact for any concerns about your child.

  • SENDCo (Mrs. R Wilson): Oversees SEND provision, liaises with external agencies, and ensures your child’s needs are met.

  • Headteacher (Mr. S Abey): Responsible for overall school management, including SEND.

  • SEND Governor (Mrs. C Buckle): Ensures SEND provision meets high standards.
