Primary Personal Development (PSHE & RSE)

Through the delivery of our PSHE and RSE lessons, we intend to further our school’s aims of providing a curriculum which is relevant to the needs of pupils, both now and in the future. It will enable pupils to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes which will enhance their personal development and wellbeing. This will have a direct, positive effect on their progress and achievement in school.

We seek to enable our children to:

  • Develop interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Develop positive, personal values and a moral framework that will guide their decisions and behaviour;
  • Respect themselves and others, their views, backgrounds, cultures and experiences;
  • Develop respectful, caring relationships based on mutuality, reciprocation and trust;
  • Develop their ability to keep themselves and others safe, physically and emotionally, both online and offline;
  • Explore relationships in ways appropriate to their age and stage of development;
  • Value, care for and respect their bodies;
  • Build confidence in accessing additional advice and support for themselves and others.

To support our delivery of the programme, we use the highly regarded Cambridgeshire Primary Personal Development Programme provides a complete solution to planning, teaching and leading PSHE across the primary age range.

It contains progressive entitlement frameworks setting out expected coverage in each age group. The teaching materials comprise over 60 units of work, which include comprehensive teaching materials and linked resources, grouped around the following strands:

  • Myself and My Relationships,
  • Healthy and Safer Lifestyles,
  • Citizenship,
  • Economic Wellbeing.

There are also enrichment units on topics such as Body Image and Online Safety.

You can find year group overviews below, indicating when strands are taught and they topics covered.
