Our French Language Curriculum

Our French language curriculum starts in Key Stage 2 (Year 3) and is designed to provide children with a strong foundation in the French language and to develop their understanding and appreciation of French-speaking cultures. Our curriculum is based on the belief that learning a second language is an essential part of a well-rounded education and that it has the power to promote personal and cultural understanding.

Our curriculum is built around the following key principles:

1. Developing language skills: Our curriculum provides opportunities for children to develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in French.
2. Encouraging communication: Our curriculum seeks to create opportunities for children to use their French language skills in real-life situations, both in and outside the classroom.
3. Valuing diversity: Our curriculum promotes an appreciation for the diversity of the French-speaking world and seeks to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures that make up this community.
4. Building cultural knowledge: We aim to provide children with an understanding of French-speaking cultures, including their history, geography, and traditions, and to foster an appreciation for the diversity of the French-speaking world.

By the end of their primary education, our children will have a solid foundation in the French language and the cultural knowledge they need to engage with the French-speaking world with confidence and understanding. They will be equipped with the skills they need to continue their language learning journey, and to appreciate the diversity and richness of the French-speaking world.
